A custom fireplace is one of the most impactful investments you can make in your home. Done right, it becomes the focal point of a room, the heart of your outdoor living space, and a feature that adds lasting value to your property. At Warrens Masonry, we have been designing and building stone and brick fireplaces for over 35 years across Modesto, Ceres, Turlock, Stockton, Oakdale, and all of Northern California.
Owner Ronald Warren personally oversees every fireplace project from initial consultation through final inspection. We do not sub out our work or hand it off to apprentices on a tight timeline. When you hire Warrens Masonry for a custom fireplace, you get Ronald's 35 years of hands-on expertise applied directly to your project from start to finish.
Whether you envision a rustic fieldstone hearth for your living room, a modern linear stacked stone feature wall, a grand outdoor fireplace for entertaining, or a cozy backyard fire pit, we design and build it to match your vision, your home, and your budget. Every fireplace we build meets or exceeds California Residential Code (CRC) Title 24 requirements and is permitted through your local building department.

We build the full range of residential and commercial fireplace types using natural and manufactured masonry materials. Our most requested projects include:

The right stone or brick makes all the difference in how your fireplace looks, performs, and holds up over decades.
Fieldstone & River Rock: Rounded, organic, and full of character. Perfect for ranch homes, Craftsman-style interiors, and rustic outdoor fireplaces. Sourced locally and regionally from Central California quarries.
Ledgestone & Stacked Stone: Clean horizontal lines with a modern or contemporary feel. Works beautifully for feature walls, linear fireplace surrounds, and sleek outdoor builds. One of the most requested styles in newer Modesto and Tracy subdivisions.
Flagstone & Slate: Flat-cut, irregular shapes with a distinctive texture. Commonly used for fireplace hearths, surrounds, and outdoor applications. Handles the Central Valley's temperature swings exceptionally well.
Limestone & Travertine: Elegant, lighter-toned stones for a classic or Mediterranean aesthetic. Popular for indoor fireplaces in Oakdale ranch homes and Bay Area estate renovations we travel for.
Cultured Stone / Manufactured Veneer: Concrete-based products that mimic natural stone at a lower material cost and more consistent appearance. Major brands like Eldorado Stone and Cultured Stone offer dozens of styles and colorways. We install them with all proper moisture barriers, metal lath, and scratch coats.
Traditional Clay Brick: Time-tested and classic. Stands up to decades of heat cycling. Ideal for firebox liners, hearth extensions, and full brick fireplace builds. We stock and source a wide variety of brick styles, colors, and textures.
Fire Brick & Refractory Materials: Every masonry firebox is lined with firebrick per California Residential Code. We use only ASTM C27 or C1261-compliant firebrick and medium-duty refractory mortar for the firebox interior.
From your first call to the final inspection, here is what to expect when you work with Warrens Masonry on a custom fireplace.
Our fireplace work spans the entire region from our Ceres base. We regularly build custom fireplaces in Modesto, Turlock, Stockton, Oakdale, Tracy, Manteca, Riverbank, Ripon, Newman, Ceres, and throughout Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties. We also travel to Sacramento and the Bay Area / Tri-Valley for larger fireplace builds.
The the region's climate - hot dry summers and cool winters - is actually ideal for fireplace ownership. Gas and wood-burning fireplaces both see heavy use from October through March. Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits extend the entertaining season from early fall through late spring. We design with this climate in mind, selecting materials and mortar mixes that stand up to California's temperature cycling.
