When you hire Warrens Masonry for a custom fireplace, you get Ronald's 35 years of hands-on expertise applied directly to your project from start to finish.

Whether you envision a rustic fieldstone hearth for your living room, a modern linear stacked stone feature wall, a grand outdoor fireplace for entertaining, or a cozy backyard fire pit, we design and build it to match your vision, your home, and your budget. Materials We Use & Why They Matter

The right stone or brick makes all the difference in how your fireplace looks, performs, and holds up over decades.

Natural Stone Options

Fieldstone & River Rock: Rounded, organic, and full of character. Perfect for ranch homes, Craftsman-style interiors, and rustic outdoor fireplaces. Sourced locally and regionally from Central California quarries.

Ledgestone & Stacked Stone: Clean horizontal lines with a modern or contemporary feel. Works beautifully for feature walls, linear fireplace surrounds, and sleek outdoor builds. One of the most requested styles in newer Modesto and Tracy subdivisions.

Flagstone & Slate: Flat-cut, irregular shapes with a distinctive texture. Commonly used for fireplace hearths, surrounds, and outdoor applications. Handles the Central Valley's temperature swings exceptionally well.

Limestone & Travertine: Elegant, lighter-toned stones for a classic or Mediterranean aesthetic. Popular for indoor fireplaces in Oakdale ranch homes and Bay Area estate renovations we travel for.

Manufactured Stone & Brick

Cultured Stone / Manufactured Veneer: Concrete-based products that mimic natural stone at a lower material cost and more consistent appearance. Major brands like Eldorado Stone and Cultured Stone offer dozens of styles and colorways. We install them with all proper moisture barriers, metal lath, and scratch coats.

Traditional Clay Brick: Time-tested and classic. Stands up to decades of heat cycling. Ideal for firebox liners, hearth extensions, and full brick fireplace builds. We stock and source a wide variety of brick styles, colors, and textures.

Fire Brick & Refractory Materials: Every masonry firebox is lined with firebrick per California Residential Code. We use only ASTM C27 or C1261-compliant firebrick and medium-duty refractory mortar for the firebox interior.

Serving Fireplace Clients Throughout the Central Valley

Our fireplace work spans the entire region from our Ceres base. We regularly build custom fireplaces in Modesto, Turlock, Stockton, Oakdale, Tracy, Manteca, Riverbank, Ripon, Newman, Ceres, and throughout Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties. We also travel to Sacramento and the Bay Area / Tri-Valley for larger fireplace builds.

The the region's climate - hot dry summers and cool winters - is actually ideal for fireplace ownership. Gas and wood-burning fireplaces both see heavy use from October through March. Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits extend the entertaining season from early fall through late spring. We design with this climate in mind, selecting materials and mortar mixes that stand up to California's temperature cycling.

Common Questions

Fireplace FAQ for the area Homeowners

Custom stone fireplaces typically range from $3,000 to $15,000 or more depending on size, materials, and complexity. A simple outdoor fire pit may start around $1,500. A full indoor stone fireplace with a custom mantel and chimney can exceed $20,000. Outdoor fireplaces with pizza ovens or BBQ combinations run $8,000-$25,000+. We provide free, detailed written estimates for every project so you know exactly what you are getting before work begins.
Most custom fireplace projects take 1-3 weeks depending on scope. A simple outdoor fire pit can be completed in 3-5 days. A full indoor stone fireplace with a chimney typically takes 2-3 weeks including curing time for mortar. Outdoor fireplaces with multiple features (pizza oven, BBQ island, seating) may take 3-4 weeks. Weather and material lead times can also be a factor. We provide a detailed schedule with every estimate.
Yes. Masonry fireplaces and chimneys require building permits in virtually all California jurisdictions. The California Residential Code (CRC Title 24, Chapter 10) governs everything from firebox construction and hearth dimensions to chimney height, damper placement, and spark arrestor requirements. Warrens Masonry handles all permitting, building department submittals, and inspections on every project we build.
Natural fieldstone, ledgestone, and flagstone all perform extremely well in our climate, handling the temperature swings between hot summers and cool winters without cracking or spalling. Cultured stone and manufactured stone veneer are also excellent - today's products are highly durable and nearly indistinguishable from natural stone. For the firebox interior, we always use ASTM-rated firebrick and refractory mortar as required by California code. We help you select the right combination for your aesthetic and budget during our free estimate visit.
Absolutely - fireplace refacing is one of our most popular services. We can update a dated brick, tile, or stucco fireplace with natural or manufactured stone veneer, add a new wood beam or stone mantel, rebuild a crumbling chimney, or completely redesign the surround. Most refacing projects take just 1-3 days and transform the entire look of the room. It is one of the highest-ROI home upgrades you can make in the Central Valley housing market.
Yes - outdoor fireplaces are actually one of our most popular services, especially in the Central Valley where the climate is ideal for outdoor living. We build freestanding outdoor fireplaces, built-in patio fireplaces, fire pit rings in stone and brick, gas fire pit tables, and combination outdoor kitchens with fireplace and pizza oven elements. These projects are typically permitted as accessory structures and we handle all the paperwork.
